Who we are

Belgian FrieSupply is not an ordinary food brand. It is a test brand created by GS1 Belgium & Luxembourg to explore a simple but important question: how do AI assistants, chatbots and search engines find and understand products today?

As more consumers ask AI tools for shopping advice - "which fries should I buy?", "does this sauce contain allergens?" - the quality and structure of product data becomes more important than ever. With this webshop, built around six fictional but fully documented products (three types of Belgian fries and three classic fry sauces), we test how well AI systems can discover, interpret and present product information such as ingredients, allergens and nutritional values.

About GS1

GS1 is the global, not-for-profit organisation behind the barcode, the familiar beep at every checkout, scanned billions of times a day. For over 50 years, GS1 standards have given products, locations and shipments a unique identity, making supply chains more efficient and trade more transparent. Our tagline says it all: The Global Language of Business.

GS1 Belgium & Luxembourg is the local member organisation serving around 9,000 companies, from one-person businesses to large multinationals. We help them:

  • Identify their products uniquely with GTINs (Global Trade Item Numbers), the numbers behind every barcode;
  • Capture and manage product master data: complete, correct and structured information about ingredients, allergens, nutritional values, packaging and more;
  • Share trusted data with retailers, marketplaces, hospitals and AI applications, through standards like GDSN and GS1 Digital Link.

As a non-profit, our goal is to make trade more efficient, more transparent and more trustworthy for everyone: businesses, consumers and, yes, algorithms too.

Why this matters

Every product description on this site is generated from structured GS1 product master data, the same data that brands share with retailers every day. If an AI assistant can correctly answer your questions about these products, it proves a simple point: good data is the foundation of findability, in the age of search engines and in the age of AI.
